All about Fruits
Nature gives us amazing gifts and fruits rank quite high there! Words are less to describe the importance of this gift. Fruits are alkaline producing, rich in antioxidants, full of vitamins, minerals, fibre, phytonutrients and contain lots of water. Packed with these, they aid and sustain our well-being, provided we have them of course!
A fruit is actually something which can both quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger at the same time! It’s best is to have them raw. They act as angels for all the busy people out there….just grab a fruit and you are good to go.
Keep them in sight at all times and you will eventually pick one up and eat it! Also every colour has something to offer, so consume a variety of fruits. Make a fruit salad sometimes.
1. Have them on an empty stomach
Fruits when consumed with vegetables or cooked meals tend to ferment in your stomach, so it’s best to have them on an empty stomach. They are ideal breakfast foods and if in between meals, it’s good to have them at least after a two hour gap.
|
2. Make them your breakfast
Enjoy fruits along with your green smoothie. You can have as many as you like. You can snack on them again before lunch if you are hungry. This way it’s possible to eat only raw till lunch which is fabulously healthy and energising.
|
3. Get blessed
Your digestive system will bless you when you have fruits as it means a lot less work for it. Fruits are easy to digest.
|
4. Don’t mix melons with other fruits
Being more watery, melons (watermelons, muskmelons, sweet melons etc) digest faster than pulpy fruits. To avoid fermentation, best is to not mix melons with other fruits.
|
5. Best to have them whole
Remember nature has no juicers! When you juice a fruit, you remove the fibre which is so essential. Eat them rather than juice them.
|
6. Organic is highly recommended
Conventionally grown fruits are full of chemicals. Chemicals sprayed on the skin go right to the core. Organic fruits are both higher in taste and nutrition and are much better for your body.
|
7. Don’t throw the peels
The maximum nutrition is under the peel! And the skins are full of fibre too. The skin of citrus fruits can be dried or zested and should not be wasted.
|
8. Eat seasonal
There is a reason why Nature makes them available seasonally!
|
9. Eat as much as your heart desires
Fruits can do no harm. Even if you are diabetic! Of course you need to follow the whole plant based diet that SHARAN recommends too.
|
10. Use them as sweeteners
Instead of sugar, use dried fruits such as raisins, dates, berries as sweeteners.
