The situation that we are in right now was quite unthinkable just a few months ago. And even then we have to consider ourselves quite lucky. We do have something on our plates, we do have a place to stay put, and we even have the possibility of being in communication thanks to Internet and cell phones. Our hospitals and farmers are working for us and so are the police. Many of us even have something to do because we are able to work from home. And for the others, it’s time to be with family or get down to those tasks that one has put off for so long – cleaning cupboards, taking online classes, or just reading. For those who have put health off for a long time, here’s your chance! You have to cook and eat at home anyway. And only health can be your saviour in any epidemic.
Those following the SHARAN lifestyle are now worried because organic foods aren’t easily available. And we know that raw is the healthiest, but many people are worried about getting infected through raw food. What should we do? Try your best to get organic. If not available, do the best you can with what you can get. Either way, raw fruit and vegetables are more nutrient dense. If you are worried about it being infected, stay away from it for a few hours before eating it so that the virus is no longer viable. Then wash it well, perhaps in salt water or water with vinegar in it. Remember, if you boost your immunity you are unlikely to fall victim to micro-organisms and parasites.
Finally, use the time you have to grow as much as you can. Herbs and microgreens are something that almost anyone can grow! And sprouts are good too.

Recipe – Tomato Salad with Basil
Try this simple yet delectable salad with any greens you like, though it tastes delicious with basil. It’s really so easy to be healthy when we relish nature’s foods.
Ingredients
3 tomatoes
salt
sesame (ground to paste)
ground pepper
garlic crushed
fresh basil
lemon juice
Method
Mix lemon juice, sesame, salt and garlic to make the dressing. Cut the tomatoes into slices and pour the dressing over it.
Decorate the salad with the chopped fresh basil before serving.
Serves 4-6

Manicuring those green thumb
You never know whether you have a green thumb or not until you try! So let’s gets started. Here are some reasons why growing your own microgreens & herbs, and making sprouts is simply fabulous:
1. Microgreens can be grown with seeds that you already have
Look in your kitchen! You probably already have some seeds such as mustard, cumin, sesame, flax, moong and other whole lentils, as well as coriander seeds, fenugreek, onion seeds, and chia seeds. Try growing them. Other seeds that give great microgreens are radish and sunflower. Of course the seeds must be raw and whole (not polished).
2. Sprouts can be easily made
From pulses and lentils that you may have at home – moong, masoor (brown lentils) chickpeas, brown chickpeas, dried peas, matki, and other beans, legumes and even raw peanuts – all of these can be sprouted.
3. Microgreens, herbs and sprouts are nutrient rich
Dress your salads, sandwiches, and other dishes with microgreens. They enhance both the look and taste of the dish.
4. Microgreens & sprouts grow in a matter of a few days
You can taste them in just a few days to a week. You will experience the pleasure of watching a seedling grow and eating it. Nothing tastes better than what you have grown yourself.
5. It’s easy to have a herb garden in your kitchen
Herbs are fragile and don’t last long in the fridge. Imagine having basil, coriander, parsley, mint and other herbs growing right in front of you! You can pick them fresh and garnish your food with them or add them to green smoothies.
